January 5th is the number 6. As Mercury begins its journey retrograde into the reflective zone so too does the number 6 make you want to crawl into a cave, be still, be silent, and meditate about the next steps in the process that is presently unfolding in your life. Mercury forms a square with Mars just as it is about to station and turn retrograde this morning. Be aware that impatience, hastiness, and disagreements are possible now. You may be speaking or acting on matters that are unclear or on incomplete information. You can be irritable and say all the wrong things. You may be competing for the floor when it comes to expressing your ideas, thoughts, and opinions, making it difficult to engage in healthy dialogue. Mental agitation could dominate. You may stir up controversy with what you say or how you want to say it. Mercury’s retrograde begins today at only one degree of Aquarius, and will spend the most time in Capricorn, beginning on the 8th. Mercury is retrograde until the 25th. During this time, your thinking is turned inward, as you review and re-assess matters. This period is best used for re-organizing and reflecting. You look at the world a little differently – through different filters – and can come up with some very important inner revelations. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness. Things like meditation help enormously as you navigate this energy. You will benefit from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing things in your past. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can actually re-connect you to other, possibly more meaningful, means of communication. Cloudy thinking around Mercury’s station is reinforced by a Venus-Neptune square. Lines can blur when it comes to pursuit of pleasure, money matters, and relationships, as you can convince yourself to believe just about anything. Tonight, however, the Sun forms its annual alignment with Pluto. This will make you feel the need to gain more control over your life and can feel like many issues are pressing down on you now but you should guard against temperamental behavior and decision making. Realize that under these aspects you are exceptionally strong-willed and focused under this influence. You benefit most today by keeping things held inward and not rushing forward prematurely with any external activity. The Moon is in passionate, determined Scorpio all day.

So many spiritual traditions pull human consciousness into the world after this one, to heaven, or that place beyond human suffering. But as much as that doorway is incredibly attractive what is more powerful is to be fully here now. Move that energy through the heart and gift your pure truth and essence into the external world right now. That is hard because it requires you to not hold back. It requires you to feel what is happening all around you in this moment and to respond to the truth with your full love and heart. And the reason that is difficult for so many of us is because that hurts. It hurts to open the heart and feel the suffering and conflicts of others. When you live in a dream of a possibility of heaven at some future time, you can ignore the present suffering because you believe that later (when you are dead and in heaven) it will all be okay. But it is not okay, especially when you could alleviate a bit of that suffering right now. At this time in humanity we have the tools for all of humanity to not be in such distress. If every person was willing to be fully in their heart and let their heart compel them to help when asked then the world as we know it would change drastically. Today, take a look outside and into the world. Open your heart and follow your hearts promptings. Become a contributor to a world that is beginning to come into its full potential.
